| General Information about Escazu
In Escazú, Urban Chic meets Country Charm, which is one of the reasons it is so beautiful, and is such a select place to live. In this suburban town campesinos in rural houses are residing comfortably next to large homes of diplomats and international jetsetters. Cool winds blow down from the mountains creating "post-card picture" days, while exotic birds sing the magic that is Escazú, Costa Rica. Escazú is a city in Costa Rica, bordering the capital San José. The city currently has over 30,000 inhabitants and covers roughly 13 square miles of land. It is situated to the south west of San José and is accessible via highway and local roads. It is elevated somewhat from the capital and many locations are prized for their scenic outlooks. This zone is one of the most developed parts in the capital city, populated by families with high income and many apartment blocks and residential areas. Climate is moist tropical: it is not unknown to experience rainfall on a day in which San José is dry and sunny. November and December frequently bring high winds.

Escazú was originally a crossroads on trails between Indian villages and the Indians found it a good place to spend the night on their journeys and gave it it's name, "Izt-kat-zu", which means "resting stone" Spanish settlers were also attracted to Escazú where they settled in the hills and began farming. It was during these early days that Escazú became known as the City of the "Good Witches", and many say there are witches living still.... who will, for a fee, tell one's fortune or concoct a love potion. Today Escazú is an interesting and unique blend of old Costa Rica and a modern, international community. The town center has adobe buildings, a nice church and a soccer field. It has the feeling of a sleepy, campesino town where neighbors have known each other for generations.
Just outside of town, however, are enclaves of luxury homes owned by North Americans and Europeans... drawn to the beauty of Escazú. Above the town of Escazú is a smaller village, "San Antonio de Escazú". Every March it holds an Oxcart Festival called "Dia de los Boyeros" with almost 100 painted carts, some nearly a century old, with huge oxen that haul them. Hundreds of campesinos and thousands of visitors gather for this annual festival.

Over the past couple decades Escazú has been a de facto expatriate enclave: several embassies have their residences located here, including the residence of the US Ambassador. The past few years has seen a significant influx of newly arrived foreigners from North America, South America and Europe. It is home to many bars and restaurants, especially those of the more chic (and expensive) variety.

Escazú has become home to Artists and traditional craftsmen. Many cultural happenings and festivals are organized throughout the year. It has excellent gourmet restaurants as well as traditional ones. The new village and the older village invite for shopping sprees and excursions

This privacy and security creates an ambiance of warmth and security for your family that is priceless! The Weather in Escazú, Costa Rica, is close to perfect with mild temperatures between 75 and 85 Degrees ALL YEAR ROUND, and lots of sunshine. No wonder even the Ambassador of the US has chosen his residency in Escazú.
